Migration to a Modern Collaboration Platform: An IT Milestone in the Automotive Industry

Innovation is key to differentiation and profitability in the automotive industry. Manufacturers must prioritize adaptability and digital development to succeed in this competitive environment. Shifting from traditional manufacturers to technology organisations. In an industry dominated by developments such as electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems and connected car technologies, cloud platforms are becoming increasingly indispensable. Companies are increasingly relying on technologies from Atlassian, AWS, Microsoft Azure and others to support their R&D and production.

The client's IT department began its transformation journey by moving from its current data center instance to the more dynamic and responsive cloud-based platform.

The Challenge

The challenge was enormous: the transition was to migrate one of the largest instances in the history of the Atlassian Data Center, with more than 35,000 users. In addition, 2530 Jira projects/Confluence Spaces had to be migrated to the cloud.

There was additional pressure to ensure no downtime, and the migration had to be completed before the data center shutdown in August 2023. Therefore, the projects and spaces were assessed and as a result, the decision was made to migrate a majority of them. The project was more than just an IT initiative, but a mission-critical transition to redefine how automotive IT experts collaborate, innovate, and drive results.
